If you haven’t checked out “Day out with Thomas” at the Orange Empire Railway Museum, I highly recommend it. He only comes two weekends a year each November and it’s such a worthwhile family day! This year he is going to be at the Museum November 9th-11th and 16th-17th. The highlight of the day is taking a 25 ride on Thomas’s train of course but there really is so much more for a fun-filled day!
We went for the first time last year and I was blown away. The kids were so excited to see Thomas and we immediately went to the train for our assigned departure time. Once the ride was over, we entered their gift shop (WATCH OUT ) to peruse the enormous selection of everything imaginable from Thomas. We quickly made our exit from that area and ventured out onto the museum’s grounds.
There was an opportunity to take a picture with Sir Topham Hatt and a professional photo in front of Thomas. They offered a great many options for food purchase and lots of kid friendly activities. They even had a nursing/changing tent for mommy and infants! My kids particularly loved the area that was filled with toy trains and tracks that you could build and play with and of course the petting zoo.
Once we had visited most of the kid areas, we took the main center trolley around the museum campus. The trolley dropped us off at various places and we were able to ride an old caboose. The kids were able to sit way up high and see as far as the eye could see. They also had a bunch of old mail cars, etc…to climb in and explore. The day got away from us and I still felt as if we didn’t get to see everything. We are looking so forward to this year’s excursion, we can hardly stand it.
I advise you to book your tickets in advance so you can plan accordingly. http://www.oerm.org/day-out-thomas Hope to see you there!
If you have attended in the past, what was your favorite part of Day out with Thomas? Do you have any recommendations?
